Native American, Southwestern United States, Ancestral Pueblo (Anasazi), ca. 1100 to 1300 CE. A black-on-white pottery ladle possibly in the Escavada style, with a checkered pattern on the interior and linear motif on the handle. Ladles were utilitarian tools to scoop and serve food and liquids, and in addition to their practical use in daily life, some ladles might have been used in ceremonial or ritual contexts. Size: 10.5" L x 4.5" W (26.7 cm x 11.4 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired and restored. About 70% or more original material. Restoration is well done and professional. Lower third of handle, and rim it attached to is restored. Tip of handle near the suspension hole is restored with new material. The break lines are nearly indiscernible with infill and overpainting.
