Native American, southwestern United States, Four Corners region, southern Colorado Plateau, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 1125 to 1200 CE. An attractive redware pottery bowl of the Wingate black-on-red type with a round but stable base, gently expanding walls, a thin rim, and a deep interior basin. A spiraling and barbed motif encircles the interior basin with thin stripes filling in the empty spaces between. The bowl was created using the coil-and-scrape method then slip painted with mineral based pigments and then fired in an oxidizing atmosphere to achieve a red ground. Size: 11.75" Diameter x 5.5" H (29.8 cm x 14 cm)
