Description:

**Originally Listed At $300**

Native American, Midwestern United States, Archaic to early Woodlands period, ca. 6000 BCE to 500 CE. A pair of cup or nutting stones with the characteristic ground surface and a roughly hemispherical indentation in the center. The purpose of these tools is still debated, but it is probable they were lightweight and portable mortars, that could have been used to grind food - such as nuts- hence the name "nutting stone," as well as shaping or polishing other tools, or as friction fire starters. Cupstones have been discovered in human settlements on nearly every inhabited continent. Size: 3" L x 2.5" W x 1.5" H (7.6 cm x 6.4 cm x 3.8 cm)
