Description:

Pre-Columbian, Western Bolivia, South America, Tiwanaku. ca. 600-1200 CE.. Grey stone, possibly Machu Pichu stone, pipe carved to represent the mighy jaguar, king of beasts to most Pre-Columbian cultures. Unusual form with its head projecting upward from the pipe rather than the more simplistic, straight form. Impressive visage with gnashing teeth and large eyes. Perforations through teeth make for smoke clouds that can dramatically emerge from the jaguar's snout. Marvelous form, technique, and iconography! Custom, museum-quality stand. 5-1/2"L x 3-3/4"H x 1-3/4"W at widest point

Provenance: Ex- Geo Fowler, United Kingdom, acquired by grandfather in Peru between 1933-1935
