Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica and Mexico, ca. 500 to 1500 CE, plus one modern example. This is a very nice starter group of ancient Pre-Columbian ceramics that includes a large rattle in the form of a male holding an axe, as well as miniatures depicting a turtle, bird vessel, mask and Teotihuacan mask. If by chance you have seen any of my videos on techniques we use to authenticate items, especially on pieces that don't warrant the cost of a TL, it's fun to use these for that purpose. I have spritzed each with water, looked at absorption rates and smelled for that deep earthy aroma. 5 of these passed my tests. One did not. I won't give away the answer, but I am pretty convinced one is not as it seems. Size of tallest: 6" H (15.2 cm)

Provenance: private Stillwater, Oklahoma, USA collection, acquired 1969 to 1970; ex-Dr. Jorge Lineas, San Jose, Costa Rica
