Description:

From ancient Ecuador, ca. 100 - 500 CE. A fine and rare type in the form of a double spouted vessel, a form often thought to represent "marriage" vessels across many Pre-Columbian cultures. The spouts are in the form of figures on opposing sides, each shown heavily adorned and with arms resting across their waists. Original red and yellow/orange pigments remain. The vessel sits atop three tripod legs, with a steeply arching strap handle connecting the two spouts. 7" tall x about 5" wide. Provenance: Ex-Bonham's, and North Carolina, USA collection. All items in this auction are legal to buy/sell under U.S. statute covering cultural patrimony per United States Code 2600, CHAPTER 14 -- CONVENTION ON CULTURAL PROPERTY, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

  • Condition: Intact overall, with restoration to the tripod feet, and a stabilized hairline on the strap handle. Otherwise, minor chipping, abrasions, weathering and wear overall, with sediment and deposits remaining.
