The Jama Coaque culture of the Pacific coast of Ecuador is known for its pottery, especially highly adorned, mold-made human figures of elite status such as this example. This finely rendered figure depicts a standing female wearing a grand head covering, large nose decoration, ear ornamentation, large choker, and long skirt or dress-like garment. The intricate bands covering her arms may depict decorative scarring or tattooing.
