A dynamic wooden sculpture of Saint Sebastian, an early Christian martyr who, according to legend, was killed by Romans during the Emperor Diocletian's persecution of Christians. Gazing upward with glossy glass eyes that add a touch of realism, the saint is shown traditionally as a handsome youth tied to a tree with bloody arrow holes piercing his legs, arms and torso. Size: 6.8" L x 10.3" W x 25.6" H (17.3 cm x 26.2 cm x 65 cm)

  • Condition: Missing halo and arrows. Professionally repaired with break lines visible. Missing a tree branch and chipping to pigment and gesso, as well as craquelure to paint in some areas. Some areas of old inactive insect damage and chipping. Otherwise, nice remaining detail and rich patina.
