From the ancient Near East, probably produced in the Levant, ca. 180 to 100 BCE. Small terracotta amphora (also known as amphoriskos) with double loop handles and an incised horizontal design. It has a flattened toe, a tapered body with thick walls, and an outwardly thickened rim. The body of the amphoriskos is gritty to the touch, with the occasional shiny inclusion that may be sea sand.
