Near East, Pakistan, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE.  Very rare and desirable finely carved grey schist head of Buddha with and an expressive visage.  Wide face with flowing wavy locks of hair, small diadem,  warm smile and elongated ears; round urna upon his forehead to signify vision into the divine world. This piece with its incredibly sensitive modeling shows stylistic similarities with the early stucco creations from Gandharan sites at Taxila. Custom block stand.
