Description:

Rome, Imperial, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A gorgeous glass jar exhibiting a circular, concave base, a cylindrical body, a round shoulder, a narrow neck, and a flared rim. Formed from green glass, the elegant vessel displays swirling striations of lustrous purple and rainbow iridescence throughout. This dainty jar was perhaps used to hold sweet and floral scented oils or perfumes for a Roman lady. The translucent nature of glass was highly prized in the ancient world, and this is a fine example! Size: 1.25" in diameter x 2.125" H (3.2 cm x 5.4 cm)

Provenance: private San Diego, California, USA collection, acquired from the 1980s to 2000s; ex-Artemis Gallery, Louisville, Colorado, USA; ex-Sarkisian Gallery, Denver, Colorado, USA
