Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A handsome cast-bronze bull formed via the lost wax (cire perdue) process. The stylized body boasts a stocky body standing with four powerful legs atop an integral rectangular plinth, a sinuous tail hanging behind the posterior, and broad shoulders surmounted by a pronounced hump. The proudly raised head with a wavy dewlap exhibits small impressed eyes, a bulbous snout, and a pair of curved, attenuated horns. Covered in fine green patina, this is a wonderful votive example from ancient Rome! Size: 1.4" L x 1.7" H (3.6 cm x 4.3 cm).
