Western Asia, Persia, Achaemenid Empire, ca. 6th to 4th century BCE. An outstanding bronze phiale or wine bowl with a flaring rim, a large, distinctive omphalos in the tondo, and two incised lines adorning the exterior wall. A nice heavy bronze libation bowl that makes a sonorous ring when tapped. Lustrous bronze surface persists on interior, while a brilliant green patina enhances the entire surface. Size: 5-3/8" in diameter x 1-5/8" (13.7 x 4.1 cm)
