Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Mixtec, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A pair of heavy copper axes from the ancient Mixtec culture. The side-by-side display presents and interesting comparison between the axe on the left which shows the gorgeous green and russet-brown patina that has gracefully developed throughout the ages and the axe of the right which has been cleaned and shows a copper finish akin to that of the original of the left axe. Quite a conversation starter for collectors. Custom, museum-quality stand. Size: larger axe (with rich patina) measures 2.5" W x 5.625" H (6.4 cm x 14.3 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Paul Simon collection, Taos, NM, acquired in the 1980's.
