Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero State, Xochipala, Mesoamerican Formative Period, ca. 13th to 10th century BCE. An interesting pair of hand-built pottery figures depicting a nude elderly man and woman. Both figures boast incised striations on their heads and limbs, with the man leaning forward as if peering into the distance, and the woman staring pensively upwards. Traces of warm red pigment are visible across both stylized examples and suggest they were covered in more intricate decorations at one time. Size of largest (female): 1.75" W x 2.25" H (4.4 cm x 5.7 cm); 3.1" H (7.9 cm) on included custom stand.
