Description:

Pre-Columbian, Hispaniola, ca. 1200 to 1500 CE. This is a pair of ovoid pottery bowls. One is of a boat shape with figural heads on the rim that may represent ancestors or deities (known as zemis). They have carefully rendered facial details. The other bowl has a design like scales or feathers. The Taino were an Arawak people who lived in the Caribbean and Florida around the time of contact with Europeans; they were the first people whom Columbus encountered. Size of largest: 6.75" L x 4" H (17.1 cm x 10.2 cm).
