Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Two pottery bowls, made to hold grave offerings as part of the west Mexican shaft tomb culture tradition. One has an inward-curving body, its exterior surface painted dark red with a creamy brown polka-dotted pattern around its upper shoulder and lower body. The other is figural, with a standing, nude woman depicted in the classic Jalisco style forming part of the wall of the round bowl. Size: 7.4" W x 6.05" H (18.8 cm x 15.4 cm)

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
