Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A pair of earthenware seated figures, both leaning forward, elbows on their knees. One has a dramatic, crested coiffure and coffee-bean style eyes; the other has a tall, rectangular headdress. These figures are from the West Mexican shaft tomb tradition, and were made to placed in deep tombs dug beneath dwellings to watch over the dead within them. Size: 3.3" W x 5.15" H (8.4 cm x 13.1 cm)

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
