A ceramic cream earthenware pitcher adorned with traditional geometric and leaf-like patterns in black and green on thinly glazed ivory, a design that that originated during the early Renaissance in the hilltop town of Orvieto; a technique and style that would inspire Majolica earthenware pottery. A lovely example from Orvieto, one of Italy's most unique and interesting cities, known for its charming medieval character, mainly due to its celebrated Cathedral, a gem of Gothic architecture that took more than 100 years to build.
