Description:

Ancient Seas, North Africa, Morocco, Ordovician period, ca. 478.6 to 443.7 million years ago. A fascinating slab of stone containing prehistoric trilobite fossils - 2 complete animals and partial remains of a few others in the surrounding matrix. The particular species of these trilobites is Selenopeltis buchi, with spinous bodies that resemble our modern day house centipedes - although these are significantly larger- the bodies in this matrix are 5.75 inches (14.6 cm) in length with their spines trailing further out. These trilobites may have all perished in a mass death before being covered in the same layers of sediment and fossilizing over millions of years. This stone matrix was excavated around one trilobite to reveal the slightly enrolled position of the pygidium, fragments of cephalons and thorax from 5 other trilobites are scattered throughout. Size: 5.75" L x 3.25" W (14.6 cm x 8.3 cm)
