Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Olmec period, Tlatilco people, Tlapacoya, ca. 1250 to 800 BCE. A beautifully preserved figure of a standing woman, her attenuated arms projecting from the sides of her slender torso replete with perky breasts and an excised navel. She wears a bulbous skirt decorated with coursing stripes of linear striations, and beneath are a pair of conical legs. Impressed ovoid eyes, a perky nose, thin ears, and a gaping mouth surrounded by full lips constitute her characteristic Olmec-style visage, and her smooth pate is capped with an intricately-incised coiffure. Highly-burnished and covered in red slip, this is a wondrous stylized figure from ancient Mexico! Size: 2.625" W x 7.375" H (6.7 cm x 18.7 cm).
