Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Chorrera culture, ca. 9th to 4th century BCE. A large ceramic stirrup vessel, composed of two chambers connected by a wide strap handle. Atop one of the chambers is a tall, cylindrical spout. Atop the other is a parrot-like bird with a sharp, inward-curving beak. Behind the parrot's neck is a small hole; blow into this to create a whistling sound through the body of the vessel. Chorrera ceramics like this one often have well-finished surfaces; they represent a culture that spanned from the desert to the sea but had a fairly uniform artistic tradition. Size: 9.85" W x 8.25" H (25 cm x 21 cm)
