Latin America, Mexico, attributed to Agustin Barajas aka "The Skimpy Painter", ca. 19th century. A rare 19th century retablo painting on tin, depicting "La Piedad" also called "La Lamentacion." A classic rendition of la Piedad (Pieta for all you Italian Renaissance lovers out there) representing a crucified Christ in the arms of the Madonna with symbols of the passion in the foreground and background. This retablo has been attributed to the artist Agustin Barajas, the so-called "Skimpy Painter." A poignant example! Size: 7.2" W x 9.8" H (18.3 cm x 24.9 cm)
