Pre-Columbian, Peru, probably Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE. A pretty textile section with an abstract hexagonal design and round eye-like motifs in the center of each hexagon. These textile pieces were used for clothing and the pattern would have denoted to the viewer information like rank and family of the individual wearing them. People from this culture were also interred in bundles of elaborate textiles, but based on wear, we believe that those were ones that were used in life before their burial. Size: 2.05" W x 15.55" H (5.2 cm x 39.5 cm)
Provenance: Ex-Slavin Collection, acquired in Peru & Bolivia, 1971-1972
