East Asia, Northeast China, Hongshan culture, Neolithic Period, ca. 3800 to 2700 BCE. An intriguing head of a mythical beast exhibiting characteristics from a pig and bull, hand-carved from mottled black stone with light inclusions. The animal boasts an upturned snout, bulbous eyes, a puffy brow, and a pair of massive horns curling up behind the head. A biconically-drilled suspension loop is situated behind the head and enabled the carving to be worn as a pendant. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 1.9" W x 1.5" H (4.8 cm x 3.8 cm); 2.7" H (6.9 cm) on included custom stand.
