Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 5th century CE. A lovely necklace of wearable form comprised of 21 hand-formed glass beads that exhibit primarily blue hues but with some showing black, white, and seafoam green colors. The beads present in circular, barrel, oblong, and eye-shaped forms, and all are strung with dozens of petite modern brass beads as well as a French hook and loop. Size (necklace): 21.625" L (54.9 cm); (largest bead): 0.73" L x 0.52" W (1.9 cm x 1.3 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Walter Crawford collection, Arizona, USA, collected between 1960 to 1970

  • Condition: Wearable as shown and strung in modern times. Glass beads are ancient; stringing, brass beads, and French hook and loop are modern. Minor abrasions, clouding, nicks, and earthen deposits on some glass beads, otherwise all are intact and very good. Nice coloration throughout.
