Egypt, Ptolemaic to Romano-Egyptian period, ca. 330 BCE to 1st century CE. A beautiful necklace made of red-brown faience beads with five deep blue polygon lapis beads interspersed near the bottom of the loop. Afghanistan was the source of lapis beads for the ancient Egyptians and the Romans after them, so these beads would have taken a long journey to arrive at their final destination.
