Description:

Classical World, Italy, Etrusco-Corinthian, late 7th century BCE. A near-miniature polychrome vessel of an elegant form - a cross between an aryballos and an alabastron - with a piriform body that corsets to a circular base and rises to a rounded shoulder, a tubular neck, a flat rim, and a single strap handle joining rim to shoulder. Most interesting, most of the body presents horizontal ribs that make for an undulating silhouette - the recesses of which are painted in alternating black and red hues with the protruding bands unpainted and presenting the orange hues of the clay body. Black vertical frets adorn the shoulder as well as the flat rim, and black pigment outlines the lip of the rim and the base and envelops the handle. A very rare example! Size: 3.625" H (9.2 cm)
