Central Asia, India, Jain culture, ca. late 15th to 16th century CE. A cast-brass statuette of a near-miniature size depicting Buddha sitting with crossed legs atop a triangular, three-footed plinth. Buddha sits with an upright posture in a meditative pose and holds both hands neatly in his lap, and his soft countenance is crowned by a fan of Naga serpents. A Sanskrit inscription surrounds all sides of the base, though the individual characters have worn over time. Lovely patina envelops the entire composition. Size: 1.6" W x 2.4" H (4.1 cm x 6.1 cm).
