Description:

Ancient Near East, Anatolia or the Levant, ca. late 2nd millennium BCE. A charming bronze statue of the god Baal (Ba'al), depicted on a pedestal with thin legs, arms, and body. The figure has Baal's characteristic pointed cap and skirt, and, like many of his bronze statues, has hands molded as if the figure once held items - such as the spear and club he brandishes in the famous stela from the Ras Sharma acropolis (now at the Louvre: AO 15775). His pedestal has a long conical pin probably used to insert the figure into a stand, possibly on a home altar or in a temple shrine. Comes with custom stand. Size: 2.1" W x 5.55" H (5.3 cm x 14.1 cm); height on stand: 5.75" (14.6 cm).

Baal was worshipped across the ancient Near East, a storm god associated with the fertility of the land, whose name is mentioned in the Bible.
