Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A tall, hand-carved wooden tool, perhaps a loom stick, with a thick body that slightly tapers and a stylized anthropomorphic monkey figure on top. The amusing simian crouches atop a small drum-shaped platform with bent legs, a bulbous body with a curved back, a long tail, and a near-spherical head with incised features. Loom sticks aided in evenly spacing and tightening the many thread strands used to make ancient textiles. Size: 14.5" H (36.8 cm); 15.375" H (39.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany
