Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Nazca culture, Phase 3 to 4, ca. 200 to 450 CE. A wonderfully sized ceramic kero that fits neatly into a small hand, this vessel is also decorated with a wide band around its exterior upper half featuring five birds. They appear to be chicks, their bodies gawky, with long necks and mouths open as if waiting for mom and dad to drop in a snack. Their bodies are speckled as if with downy feathers. Perhaps the subject matter and diminutive size of the vessel indicate that it was made for a child. Size: 4" W x 3.5" H (10.2 cm x 8.9 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany
