Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A polychrome kero with a round but stable base, gradually-expanding walls which rise to a flared rim, and a fascinating iconographic program. The exterior of the vessel depicts the Masked Mythical Being (also Anthropomorphic Mythical Being) painted in red, umber, black, cream, grey, and white hues. His masked feline visage presents trophy heads in the whiskers and headband, and his lengthy body contains nested triangular trophy heads and a trophy taster at the tail end. A wonderful example of Nazca artistry. Size: 3.75" in diameter x 3" H (9.5 cm x 7.6 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany
