Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Nazca, ca. 1st to 5th century CE. A petite, hand-built pottery bridge spout vessel with a pair of white-winged guan birds painted across its cream-colored exterior. The vessel's body is an oval form with a pair of burgundy cylindrical spouts atop conjoined by a short arching stirrup handle. The birds are painted in a geometric fashion, delineated by a uniform black line in hues of brown, burgundy red, and dark orange. The birds' heads are aimed downwards as if picking at grains in a feeding manner. A truly charming example! The white-winged guan is a large, turkey-like bird restricted to the dry forests of northwestern Peru currently recognized as an internationally endangered species. Size: 3.35" W x 4" H (8.5 cm x 10.2 cm)
