Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A large and fine hand-built pottery vessel with a round but stable base, a rotund lower body which gently tapers upwards, a flared rim, and a deep interior cavity. The highly-burnished exterior boasts an interesting pair of stylized mythical killer whale deities that combine elements of the whale along with some human elements like the round eyes and lipped mouths, all in orange, white, red, grey, and black colors set atop a wheat-hued ground. Above the whales is a register of left-facing ducks with large wings, flared tail feathers, and slender beaks presented in white, orange, yellow, and red hues atop a black ground. Size: 5.125" W x 5.125" H (13 cm x 13 cm).
