Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast of Peru, Nazca culture, ca. 200 to 500 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery drinking vessel called a kero (also quero) with a convex base, a gently swollen body, a tapered shoulder, and a thin rim. Adorning the exterior of the vessel are bands of painted polychrome pigment including a central register of stepped, inversely-corresponding geometrics that is enclosed above and below with programs of abstract, white-and-black trophy heads. Size: 6" Diameter x 7.5" H (15.2 cm x 19 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired from several pieces, with light adhesive residue and overpainting along break lines. Two pairs of drilled holes indicate old repairs at one time, however original bindings are missing. Abrasions and fading to pigment, with light earthen deposits, and some abrasions and pitting in scattered areas, otherwise in good condition. Nice preservation to original decorative motifs.
