Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, South Coast, Nazca, ca. 200-600 CE. The playful design of this polychrome kero is organized into registers of geometric, possibly animorphic motifs painted in red, cream, and brown. The Peruvian potter who created this piece achieved amazing symmetry despite the fact that the potter's wheel was unknown in this part of the world. The ancient artisan formed the vessel by building up spirals of coiled clay and then scraping and smoothing out the exterior and interior to make any joints invisible. Potters of the Nazca culture mastered this coiling technique as we can see in this example! 3-7/8"H x 3-3/4"D Provenance: Ex-Private Texas Collection All items in this auction have been legally acquired, are legal to sell, and guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
