Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel with a round but stable base, a tapered cylindrical body, and a thin rim surrounding the deep basin. Atop the cream-hued ground is a grand depiction of the Anthropomorphic Mythical Being (AMB) with its broad whiskers, diamond-shaped eyes, and flowing body. The deity flies around the vessel with a multiple trophy heads on his cloak, loincloth, and in his hand, and with the other hand a lengthy scepter is held. Size: 4.25" W x 6.2" H (10.8 cm x 15.7 cm).

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, acquired in the 1950s to 1960s
