Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl of a sizable form with a round but stable base and remarkably thin walls surrounding the deep basin. The highly burnished exterior presents a wide register depicting four abstract parrots in flight delineated in grey, orange, cream, black, and white hues against a red ground. Above is a narrow grey band followed by a fine white line, and the base presents this same coloration. Each bird stands out elegantly against the red ground, and their stylized presentation is characteristic of high-quality Nazca artistry. Size: 7.125" W x 3.125" H (18.1 cm x 7.9 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950-1960s
