Description:

Pre-Columbian, south coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 300 to 400 CE. A dazzling bag fragment constructed from tightly woven natural cotton fibers dyed in a deep brown color. Sewn to the exterior surfaces of the satchel section are dozens of iridescent parrot feathers in hues of vermilion red, orange, cerulean, and periwinkle that elegantly complement the chocolate brown bag color. The ancients of the Andes held parrots in high esteem. Not only were they thought to be incarnations of sky deities for their ability to fly well above the tree line, but they were also prized for their brilliant plumage. Size: 13" L x 9.75" W (33 cm x 24.8 cm)
