Description:

Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Unusual depiction of these relatively common smoker forms. This individual is clearly afflicted with some serious condition(s) with asymmetrical body shape, small squinty eyes and overall rotund figure. He sits on a two-legged stool, his right hand is held to his mouth, usually a gesture attributed to smoking but in this case, possibly eating. Nice series of earrings and tightly incised hair. 13" H.

Provenance: Ex-private Laguna Niguel, CA collection acquired before 1990.
