Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery male figure shown in a classic pose of mourning. The nude figure sits with both legs held closely to his chest and wears trios of bangles on each forearm. The expressive countenance features protruding lips beneath a prominent nose, almond-shaped eyes that slant slightly inwards, large earspools, and a headband with locks of hair that drape over the top and down to the nape of his neck. His spinal column protrudes from his back and features petite incisions that denote individual spinal discs. Size: 4.4" W x 7.6" H (11.2 cm x 19.3 cm)
