Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished redware female figure seated upon delineated legs with thick thighs. The woman presents in the nude with an upright posture - holding both arms out from sloped shoulders and perky breasts. The stylized countenance features impressed eyes and mouth, a prominent nose, tab-shaped ears, and a simple cap topping her oversized head. A wonderful example from this shaft tomb culture. Size: 5.1" W x 6.625" H (13 cm x 16.8 cm)

  • Condition: Small repair to tip of nose, with chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Small chip to left breast, with nicks to limbs, body, and head, and fading to areas of pigmentation. Great earthen deposits, root marks, and pigment preservation throughout. Old inventory label beneath base.
