Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery figure of a petite size depicting a seated man. Presented in hues of red-orange, black, and light yellow, the nude figure leans with a hunched pose over both knees and holds the front of both knees with his hands. The expressive countenance features protruding lips with corner nodules, a slender nose with a septum ring, earrings adorning each ear lobe, and ovoid eyes surrounded by heavy brows, all beneath a hat with a thick brim and a top cavity, perhaps for inserting offerings. Size: 3.5" W x 4.6" H (8.9 cm x 11.7 cm)
