Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fascinating pottery figure of a man who appears to be engaging in autofellatio. He is seated, with a bowl in his lap, and an enormous phallus-like tube that rises from the edge of the bowl to the man's mouth. The man is painted red, with white stripes decorating his headdress and body. His headdress has two horns rising from it, perhaps in reference to an animal like a deer. Erotic figures in Mesoamerica often are given a connection to the animal world. His eyes are wide set and he has a large nose and nose ring, as well as two huge spool earrings. The figure is reminiscent of a famous mythological figure from a region not too far north of West Mexico - Kokopelli, the sexual trickster who is known from at least ca. 1000 CE and may be older. Size: 2.35" L x 2.4" W x 3.7" H (6 cm x 6.1 cm x 9.4 cm)
