Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A flat terracotta figure of a woman, probably pregnant given her swollen lower belly and enormous breasts, presenting a characteristically stylized visage, her person highly decorated with an applied necklace, large ear spools, and an elaborate headdress. Her attenuated arms and legs serve to emphasize her comparatively enlarged locii of fertility and mesmerizing visage. Comes with custom stand. Size: 1.65" W x 3.45" H (4.2 cm x 8.8 cm); height on stand: 3.65" (9.3 cm).

This is one of the pre-Columbian figures where that makes it easy to understand how modern artists of the early 20th century came to be inspired by their highly stylized forms of Pre-Columbian as well as African art.
