Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Chinesco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Bichrome, hollow, pottery vessel depicting a dog birthing a puppy. The piece displays characteristic abstract, minimalist features associated with the desirable Chinesco style. Significant original red and cream pigment remains, with decorative red running from shoulders to feet of both canines and adorning the head of the puppy as well as signs of extensive negative resist stylized geometrics on the underside. Size: 8.5" L x 5" W x 4.5" H (21.6 cm x 12.7 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Harvey Collection, acquired prior to 1972
