Native American, Western United States, Plains Tribe, Cheyenne or Lakota, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A handmade girl doll on a cradleboard, made from cotton textile, leather, human hair, and beadwork. The doll is tied into the cradle board, but is removable. Size: 18" L x 8" W (45.7 cm x 20.3 cm)

Provenance: private Alamo, California, USA collection, purchased in Montana, USA in 1966

  • Condition: A few minor holes in the leather, possibly from old inactive insect activity. Stains and discoloration across the leather, especially on doll's face. Some stiffening to leather tassels but most are supple. Fraying to threads and losses to some beadwork.
