Native American, Southwest, Arizona, Papago/Pima, ca. early 20th century CE. A lovely basket of a corsetted form that is somewhat wider than it is tall, comprised of wrapped, coil-like rows adorned with an all-over pattern featuring a repeated, abstract and expanded step motif, woven from fibers of natural brown and taupe hues against a beige ground. Pima and Papago , or Tohono O’odham, baskets like this example were used for carrying and storage, preparation and serving of food, as well as religious ceremonies. Size: 11.25" W x 7.5" H (28.6 cm x 19 cm)
