Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest (Canada / Alaska), Makah Nootka, ca. 1900 to 1930s. A beautiful Makah lidded trinket basket, so finely woven with twine with an inner rim of cedar bark, the exterior walls woven with the words "ALBERNI. B. C. PORT" in russet brown on a natural ground, the pedestal base of woven raffia with russet geometric motifs on the underside. The Makah artisans of Neah Bay developed a modest industry of creating trinket baskets in the 1860s that continued through the 1930s. A wonderful example. Size: 3" W x 2.25" H (7.6 cm x 5.7 cm)
